Apologies

Apologies to all visitors to this blog, I have been trying to update the meetings calendar, post covid, and Blogspot will not longer allow me to do this.

I will try and resolve the situation but may have to transfer the platform we use.

We still meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, except August, in Cricklade, at the United church hall.

Wednesday 5 May 2021

In January 2020 we decided  we  would create pieces of work using Japan as our inspiration in readiness for an exhibition to celebrate the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. Unfortunately due to covid the games and the exhibition were cancelled.

Our members completed a lot of work and were delighted to discover the Japan Olympics are taking place in Tokyo 2021. The dates are July 23rd to August 8th.

However we cannot go ahead with our planned exhibition during the present restrictions.

We are currently approaching businesses with a presence in Cricklade High Street to support us by exhibiting a piece of our Japan Olympics work in their windows, for the duration of the Olympic Games. Please keep an eye out for the work and we will publish a list of businesses taking part.

Opening of Exhibition

We had a wonderful turn out of members and guests for the official opening of our exhibition at the Swindon Museum and Art gallery.  The Mayor Garry Perkins and his partner performed the official ceremony and the refreshments were provided by Olive Tree Café. The cakes were delicious. The Mayor and his partner were very interested in the exhibits and how we had used the historic photographs as an inspiration. Here is a small selection of the work on show. However  the work is best viewed at the Art gallery to get a real appreciation of size, texture and scale. The exhibition is running until September.

I am awaiting the photos of the exhibition.... but will post them on here as soon as I receive them.

We have many sessions of meet the artist and demonstrations planned over the next few weeks and the first of these will take place shortly. Friday 31st May and Saturday 1st June. So come along and enjoy.

Gold work talk - Cynthia Jackson

We were very lucky to have an inspiring talk given by Cynthia Jackson from Canada on the Broderers Crown at our April meeting.

We were taken on a fascinating journey of research in the tradition of the Crowns created  for the medieval guilds. The goldwork was breath taking. For more information go the Broderers Guild
